Energy Saving Dehumidifiers

Tips for Lowering Your
Dehumidifier Energy Usage:
-
A 40 pint ENERGY STAR
qualified dehumidifier can save consumers roughly $20 per year or more,
depending on how it is used. That's $200 or more over 10 years-enough to
pay for the dehumidifier!
-
Dehumidifiers work best
air can circulate freely through it. Place it away from walls and bulky
furniture.
-
Place dehumidifier in
the area with the highest humidity. For safety reasons, don’t place it
directly in water or near your sump pump.
-
Check for frost
build-up. If your unit is running in temperatures less than 70º
F, check it occasionally
to see if frost is building up on the coils. If so, turn the unit off
until the frost melts and the room is warmer.
-
Clean the unit. Dust or
vacuum the dehumidifier at least once a year before you plug it in. If
your unit is difficult to clean, check the owner’s manual.
Tips for Buying
a New Dehumidifier:
-
Purchase a low wattage
unit. If you’re comparing dehumidifiers with the same capacity, check the
wattages on the nameplates. A lower wattage unit that does the same job is
the better value.

An ENERGY STAR
qualified model removes the same amount of moisture as a similarly sized
standard unit, but uses less energy-at least 10% less, and in some cases
up to 23% less.
