The Senior
Companion Program (SCP) provides
older adults the opportunity to apply their life experiences
to meeting community needs.
Senior Companions are older adults
60 years of age or older living on limited income. Senior
Companions serve one-on-one with other older adults who
maybe living alone and have difficulty completing everyday
tasks. They assist with grocery shopping, bill paying, and
transportation to medical appointments. Senior Companions
can alert family members and doctors to potential problems.
Senior Companions also provide respite to primary family
caregivers and assist in Adult Day Care Centers. Because of
the Senior Companion Program thousands of citizens are able
to live with dignity in their own homes. Senior Companions
at Land-of-Sky Regional Council volunteer in Buncombe,
Henderson, Madison and Transylvania Counties.
Senior
Companions commit to volunteering 20 hours per week and
receive a tax-free stipend of $2.65 per hour, mileage
reimbursement, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave.
