GOT E-WASTE?
So you got a new TV, monitor, computer, DVD, cellular phone,
or other electronic equipment and now you don’t know what to
do with your old clunker that’s just taking up space!
Well, have no fear! Bring your unwanted electronic
equipment to a FREE E-Waste Recycling Event, happening at
the Asheville Wal-Mart off Swannanoa River Road on Saturday
November 6th, 2010. Sponsored by Wal-Mart, the event will
be held from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm in the wal-mart parking lot.
Electronic waste, commonly referred to as E-Waste, is a
major environmental issue along with the volume of waste
being generated. Many electronic items contain hazardous
materials like lead, cadmium, and mercury that are harmful
to humans, pets and the environment. In fact, because of
the toxins found in many of these electronic devices, the BC
Solid Waste Department has stopped landfilling unwanted
electronic equipment. Various components used in electronic
equipment, such as glass, metals and plastic, can actually
be recycled into other products. E-waste also contains
valuable materials such as gold, platinum and silver that
can be recovered.
E-Waste items accepted include TV’s, monitors, computers and
components, wire, and more. (Sorry, we cannot accept
household appliances, microwaves, smoke detectors,
furniture, chemicals, or household or car batteries).
SORRY, NO BUSINESSES PERMITTED.
Any BUNCOMBE COUNTY school, government agency, non-profit
organization, and/or resident is welcome to bring their
unwanted electronic equipment to the Asheville Wal-Mart, and
there is no limit to the amount of e-waste people can bring. |
